How it works

How it works

All tutoring at Headstart English begins with a free informal consultation appointment (in person or via Skype) where we can discuss in detail the individual needs of the student and how these can be addressed.

A personalised and fully resourced scheme of lessons is then created. Lessons are carefully designed to be interesting and engaging so students make progress in every session.

Book your tutoring sessions. Tutoring is available throughout the week, including evenings and Saturdays, to best suit your needs. Tutoring can take place at my home address (Nailsea BS48) or your own home if you live locally. Tutoring sessions are also available via Skype for those who live further afield.

You will receive regular feedback about your child’s progress and areas for further improvement.

Optional additional reading and homework can also be set to reinforce what has been learned.

Testimonials

My son has had private tuition with Charlotte since September. I could not have asked for a better tutor. Before starting with her, my son was working below his target level and his teachers weren’t sure he would achieve a grade 5 in his final GCSE. With Charlotte’s help, he got a 6 and is now off to college to start his A-levels! I would absolutely recommend Charlotte as a tutor; without her support, this would not have been possible.

Caroline Nicholson, Portishead

I have been having weekly tutoring sessions with Charlotte for 2 years now. When I started my A-levels, I found English Literature really tough. I was getting low marks for my essays because I didn’t know what to include or how to structure my ideas, and I found some of the texts (Shakespeare!) really difficult to understand. Charlotte has been amazing. She’s really patient and knowledgeable and always pushes you to do your best. Thanks to her, my predicted grade has gone from a B to an A and I’ve been offered a place at Cardiff University this September.

Lucy, Backwell

We came to Charlotte because we felt our son needed pushing in English. He had a high target GCSE grade of 8 and we wanted to make sure that he achieved his very best in the exam. Charlotte has brought out his confidence and love for English, and we are very pleased with the progress he has made.

Mark T, Cleeve

Madeleine absolutely loves her weekly tutoring sessions with Charlotte. Her confidence has grown and her most recent school report commented on her improved spelling and writing skills. Madeleine has dyslexia and has found English difficult in the past. Now it’s her favourite subject!

Marta Hill, Weston-super-Mare

Charlotte helped me a considerable amount with my English over 18 months as I prepared for my Cambridge Advanced English exam. I would highly recommend her to anybody wishing to improve their English.

Gigi de Pedro, Asturias, Spain

Eric Cantos, Dubai

During the writing of my dissertation, Charlotte’s incisive approach helped me throughout all of the different stages; from refining and strengthening my research proposal to editing and proofreading, Charlotte was always on hand to guide me to achieve the best possible result. Without Headstart English, I definitely would not have been able to achieve my First-Class Honours degree. I cannot recommend her highly enough!

Leanne L, Edinburgh

We’ve noticed a huge improvement in Connor’s writing in just a few months and he always leaves tutoring with the biggest smile on his face. Thank you so much for all your help.

Sara, Pill
